What keeps you motivated?

Keeping up the habit of working out every day is tough for most of us. What are some ways you keep yourself motivated to hit the gym on your off-days?

Seeing my body change! It's like a drug, the bigger I get the more I want to get bigger!
If all else fails I put the Dorian Yates "Blood and Guts" DVD on, that always gets me motivated!

Hey Cornish_Celt,

You had mentioned that seeing your body change, keeps you motivated. How do you track progression?

-Scout

MEATHEAD 06-22-2010 09:49 PM

You can keep a log in a notebook to track it or if cutting just look in the mirror in the gym

Yeah same here!!

also the journal has been very good to me over that last year or two ... it so motivating that when you get stuck at what ever plateau and you can look back and see where you can from . give me the strength to power pn cause i know how much i have accomplished already.
also give you good insight on what you did last time :-)

Iwant2grow 06-22-2010 10:18 PM

As previously said mate, keep a log/journal of some kind, use the mirror at the gym! I train for size and my goal is to hit 300lbs that alone keeps me motivated!

Thats so true MEATHEAD, if Dorian can't motivate you, then nothing will!

Nice! How long do you think it will take for you to reach your goal?

Scout200 06-23-2010 06:37 PM

I've heard that taking pictures is a good way to track progression. Do you guys do that? If so, how frequently do you take pictures?

Cornish_Celt 06-23-2010 06:47 PM

I'm aiming for 6 to 8 months but it may be longer!

unknown 06-24-2010 03:53 AM

motivation... everytime I throw another 5lb on a lift, 1lb on the body, run a bit faster, improve in any way... its motivation to get it going cuz I know how easy it is to go backwards and that if you dont keep at it you lose it quick and I dont like workin hard just to lose it from a day of lazyness.... NO EXCUSES!!!! FUCKIN DO IT!!!! Someone else out there is always bigger, faster, stronger!!!! Dont forget that! Be the best YOU that YOU can be!!

unknown 06-24-2010 03:54 AM

Tracking progression of body growth... Journal and tape measure. Seeing the numbers get bigger is great motivation

That's a great point! You will lose everything you've gained if you stop... I also like your response "Be the best YOU that YOU can be!!"

Wow, nice! What do you intend on doing once you reach your goal? Maintain or get bigger?

-Scout

Cornish_Celt 06-24-2010 04:59 PM

I will see how it goes, but to be perfectly honest I will probably carry on and get bigger:D

Especially when you invest so much time (and money) into reaching your goals.. I would think it would be hard to "stop" (maintain) once you reach your goal instead of reaching/wanting more... How long has it taken you to come this far?

I originally started bodybuilding in 1991, in 2000 I got married and slowed down because of family commitments, I did stop for a while but got back into it seriously and now I will never leave bodybuilding, I love it!

Once you stop doing something, it can be difficult to start up again.. what persuaded you to start BB again?

Hey Sgt.Mecca,

That's awesome.. Very well written!!!

When I see fat guys that motivates me to keep training.
Fact that I look better and better keeps me motivated
Training journal and mirror are doing their job, however to be honest last 6 months I dont use training journal, just keep weights in mind, must agree with training journal its more motivation as you see what hard work you did.
Arnold and Dorian are those who helps me going on.

Train hard!

Hey admin,

You had mentioned that keeping a training journal is great motivation but over the past 6 months, you haven't been using one. Is there any particular reason why?
