Good info posted here.

After 13 years of no lifting, I got back into the gym and tried several workout plans the first year, giving each plan 8-12 weeks. I ended up using the Strong Lifts for the second year and then moved to a modified Starting Strength plan.

If I was younger, I would have spent more time with HST but at almost 50 yrs old, I do not recover like I did 30 years ago.

I told both of my sons to stick with the compound movements and stay with it until your foundation fills out. Once you can squat and deadlift twice your bodyweight then add some isolation movements to the workout.

As far as steroids or pro-hormones, wait another 8-10 years. Get to your natural limits before adding hormones. As long as your body is functioning properly, it will grow, you just need to add the fuel (food).

The easiest way I found to stick to eating correctly is to eat your protein first, then veggies, then junk. I also use the one day junk food day. It helps a lot. Just make sure you get enough protein and total calories every day.
