please guys, settle it once and for all - Transformer - 05-28-2016

I have always used a 1 1/2" needle for shots in the glutes. Last shipment I got were 1" and I keep reading different accounts of what is best for test intramuscular. I don't have a lot of body fat (on the low side) but I'm also not as well defined as most of you, so can I use the 1" ?????????????? They were the longest ones for sales at GBN.

I really appreciate your response.

There are several factors which need to be considered in choosing the size of a needle to use for an injection or “shot”. They include such issues as:

• the type and viscosity of the medication
• the size and age of the patient
• the mobility status of the patient
• the desired absorption rate for the medication

In general for IM (intramuscular) injections you would use a 21 to 23 gauge needle 1 to 1.5 inches long for an adult.
(I use 1.25" to 1.5" in my quads)
Hope this helps

I normally go 23 guage and 1". Rarely pin in my glutes though. Prefer my Delts. I honestly don't think you are going to get a difinitive answer on this one. Answers may vary. Haven't had an issue with 1" myself though.
