Little known fact is that asparagus are a natural diuretic. They’re also a great source of fiber as well as vitamins A, C, E and K. When preparing these, make sure you skip adding salt or salted butter.

Is it the only veg that is a known diuretic? Blood pressure is absoluely one of the things I'd like to control the best I can.

I eat a lot of broccoli and carrots, maybe not what I'm supposed to, but a lot.

I also read that drinking a lot of water can help. I've always had to force myself to drink a lot of water.

None of us want to be slopping around full of water so natural diuretics are definitely a good idea.

A disastrous idea is not to drink. It doesn't work and we need plenty of water to flush the kidneys through. Being dehydrated is not healthy.

Right. So how much do you drink in a day. I'm trying to get mine up to a gallon before I cycle. In the U.S. we have some horrible tap water. So I get spring water. It's been going much faster though.

I know too much water can harm someone, but is there a part where too much water harms our fitness outcomes.

I have been drinking 5 litres a day all year round for several years now as advertised by a prep coach takes some getting used to but you will notice the difference

Too much in one go is the problem. A gallon spread over the day won't harm you. A gallon in one go will probably kill you. It's mainly to do with diluting salts and other necessary minerals in your blood too much.

One thing I've learned over the years is that studies to discredit other studies happen all the time. If we believed everything we ever read about a new danger or health benefit we'd all blow our brains out.

If you don't feel ill or run down or in any other way feel you're suffering from excess water intake then you're probably not drinking too much.


And as Eazy said at the start of the thread, eating foods that eliminate rather than add to our fluid levels has got to be good.
