best type of cardio?

what type of cardio is most effective?
are certain machines better ect ??

FunkyMan 11-10-2009 02:20 PM

I am doing cardio after my training session, 20-30 minutes and it works great, my abs can be seen.
However another idea is to do cardio in the morning on empty stomach. I tried this technique for 2 months and I was very happy with results however there were some days when I was very exhausted coz of these cardio sessions.

What is your target?

Robbie 11-13-2009 03:48 PM

it obviously depends on what you want to achieve, if you want to get ripped then you need to drop your BF so eat less cals and train in the morning , if you just want to do cardio to keep fit , then just fit it in when you can 2 - 3x a week

Robbie fully covered the subject :)

I am doing different types of cardio and I am combining them in different days. However during winter I do not practice cardio.

dbolplustest 01-13-2010 01:38 PM

I prefer 2 times per week on mornings on empty stomach.

cardio

Swimming is the best type of cardio by far.

It gets your heart rate up and works all of the muscles simultaniously.

All cardio is effective if you put the effort in mate.
Treadmill and X-trainer are good but its really what you put into your cardio that will make you lose bodyfat.

Cornish_Celt 03-09-2010 08:46 AM

walking the dog twice a day!

Mattious 03-09-2010 08:50 AM

I find x-trainer is awsome, the amount of calories I burn an hour would be 800. This is alot compared to the rower/bike but I can't say about treadmill as I do not use this.

FunkyMan 03-11-2010 12:30 PM

I used to do cardio in the morning but soon will start doing it after training sessions and will see results.

Robbie 03-11-2010 03:03 PM

X trainer is my fav form of cardio although id love to do more swimming and mountain biking but i dont really have the time and i have a x trainer at home for convinience

I am a big fan of the ellipticle machine because it is the perfect center between a flat walker and the stair climber.

You get all the benefits of the stair climber with less impact to your knees.

The flat walker is for injured, someone with bad knees, out of shape, elderly.

The ellipticle burns more calories and improves cardio vascular function, and shapes your legs and butt.

The stair climber is a better butt machine, but harder on your knees.

I vote the ellipticle the best well rounded cardio machine for the average person.

clayton 04-02-2010 01:50 AM

I agree the elliptical is great because of little resistance but the truth is anything that gets your heart going and your body sweating is going to get close to the same results.

eastabos1 06-04-2010 03:28 PM

i am going to say eliptical myself.

MEATHEAD 06-12-2010 11:44 AM

Well to throw ya ll a little twist i find cardio quite boring and can t stand it.The way i work around this is to start off for 15 min on the exercise bike then do 5 sets of 20 reps for abs, soon as i am done with that i get back on the bike and repeat until i have done 45 min cardio and 300 reps for abs.

Bushmaster 06-22-2010 07:11 AM

Cardio

I think the type of cardio is dependent on a few variables. If I am just in the off season, bulking, I just hop on an elliptical for 20min 2-3 times a week at high intensity. If I am dieting on a keto I would vouch for a L.I.S.S. (low intensity steady state) form of cardio below 130bpm as I will have no glucose to burn up and high intensity would go after muscle. Also a few weeks out from a competition I would be on a stair mill (stair stepper if it's not available) to really bring out those striated glutes.

mob403 06-26-2010 09:43 PM

i like to switch it up when it comes to cardio wish i could do more swimming.

i would also like to swim more but for now i just mix it up between the treadmill and bike . i also use intervals of high and low intensity .

admin 08-04-2010 08:31 AM

I prefer jogging on empty stomach and treadmill, tell me more how do you practice low intensity training?

hey bro not sure if your asking me or bushmaster ,
i use intervals
walking 5mins
fast run 5mins
walk 5mins
fast run 10mins
walk 5mins

then same thing on the bike ,nothing fancy but it works for me .

nutshairy 04-28-2011 07:22 PM

for me my weight training is my cardio.HIT

SkinnyGuy 05-25-2011 03:47 PM

I usually do the row machine for about fifteen mins pretty hard and then move to the elliptical for thirty mins. I'm not trying to burn fat so I keep my heart rate up around 160-180.

ogy 07-17-2011 10:39 AM

I was never a fan of cardio machines untill my knee started playing up due to too much running.

Now a massive fan of intervall training on the treadmill, I recommend it to anyone trying to improve cardio fitness, the jog and sprint (or even walk and jog)

Also the concept 2 rower is an awesome piece of kit once set up properly, Again intervall training.

Personally I live near a great trail run, down by a quite river and over open fields, I have various runs ranging from 3 to 16 miles and also great to mix it up with mountain biking.

ogy 07-17-2011 05:42 PM

Lets not forget circuit training for some serious fast paced cardio.

What I like about circuits is that you constantly have someone pushing you. I used to do circuits at our local boxing gym, a combination of bag work and circuit exercises. an ex boxer, proper mean old bastard took it. His favourite quote was "do it properly or do it again" The classes often ran over by about 30-45 mins lol

SkinnyGuy 08-16-2011 08:48 PM

does sex count?? I mean i get my heart rate going for a good five ten minutes that has to be worth something...

Cornish_Celt 08-17-2011 04:43 AM

Sex is extremely good cardio!
Personally I hate cardio so it's either sex or walking the dog!

teebusa 11-11-2015 08:37 PM

cardio

doggin the mrs twice a day:p

tj805 11-12-2015 02:32 AM

I am partial to the row machines myself.

Malik 02-19-2016 06:54 AM

I find when I use the elliptical machine its easy to slack, it can be effective if you really push yourself and increase resistance, but its easy to just move slowly and not work too hard on it. Many can really boost your heart rate and burn big calories.

William011 03-24-2016 04:54 PM

Running definately burns the most calories, but hardest on your joints. Jogging burns a pretty good amount of calories, but it is still bad on your joints....I hate to say this, but walking are for people that can't jog or run...does nothing for a person unless you are obese. My favorite is jogging....never gets old. :)

Walking has many benefits beyond burning calories . If anyone needs to burn off so many calories that walking is a waste of time they should just eat less
